Topic: Ty's many frogs....
Ok, my son Tyler loves little critters. He's had a gecko in the past and adored him(he died). He's had
a turtle named Turtle for years now.(He's a water turtle so you can't really play with him) And recenlty he begged me for a frog. First it was gonna just be an aquarium frog but I would have to buy a tank and all the stuff and I wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much money. So we had a couple 5 gallon tanks that weren't suitable
for water and some lidsand I figured what the heck I'll get him a little tree frog.
At Petsmart they have Green tree Frogs for $9.99.
I bought Tyler a tree frog and all the supplies he would need. We got home and Tyler was so excited.
The frog was in a plastic bag filled with air.(like what they give you with fish) Out of his excitment to get his frog ready he opened the bag. I told him
I wasn't ready for that frog yet and that he better hold tight to the bag or the frog would jump out.
Recently I have felt much frustration with my son not listening to me and he's spent quite a bit of time in "time out". No sooner did I tell him to hold tightly to the frog's bag when out of the corner of my eye this frog came flyin at me! Of course I couldn't help but scream! My daughter who was helping me just stood there looking at me and her friend Bailey ran into the other room.(I think I scared her) Tyler quickly says "Sorry mom, I'll go to my room now". He knows the drill....
Anyway, I caught the frog and put him in his tank and all was well. About a week later I go in the morning to check on Turtle and Frog and Turtle was good but no Frog. So I pull out the tank and I look closer. Still NO Frog. I then take the lid off and
pull out the log and bushes and his water dish. Still no frog. So, I run my finger thru the bark
bedding and I don't feel anything. I am rackin my brain trying to figure out where that green guy could have went. I was worried Tyler would be sad and I remembered that the guy in Petsmart said that Green Tree Frogs were very close to our Pacific Northwest Tree Frog. So I head out to the back yard to look for a frog. It was easy to find one because they love our hottub. Not get in it but rather sit right under it where the pump is. I catch a little guy and bring him in the house and put him in the tank.
All was well with the world.
Next morning, same routine. Check on Turtle check on Frog 2. And low and behold there is Frog! Oh my goodness!
There he is sitting in his favorite spot. I don't get it! Where was he hiding? All I can think is that Green Tree Frogs can turn brown and that he cleverly hid himself in the bark and I must have just missed him with my finger.
Anyway, the two frogs were fat and happy and I thought that they might need a bigger tank. Sometimes at Goodwill they have used fish tanks.
We went and sure enough they had a nice 10 gallon perfect for two tree frogs. This tank had a great
lid with a light for 13.95 what a steal. So we brought it home and set that baby right up. The frogs seemed happy for the new space. Next day I get up and again check on Turtle and Frog and Frog 2. Uh, there were no frogs!
both were definatly gone. On closer insepection
I noticed a nickle sized space on the lid. I realized that they must have got out that hole and headed for the hills.(out Tyler's bedroom window).
So, I had a very sad little boy. The tank was empty for a week except for a few crickets.
Today we went to a pet store and bought Tyler a new frog. This is a big guy. He's a Whites Tree Frog and he's about four inches in diameter. Tyler named him Junior. I covered the hole and I am sure Junior will find it rather nice living in Tyler's room.
My boy will love him I am positive.
